Allium hollandicum

Drumstick alliums have been involved in any number of nomenclatural cat-fights. The large, domed, light violet umbels of this taxonomically conflicted species (or hybrid) open atop 3-foot stems in late spring. Our general approach is to enjoy the showy blooms and to leave the botanical wrangling to others. One thing this is NOT is the mass-market cultivar ‘Purple Sensation’, which sometimes goes under this specific epithet. Steppe/Montane; C Asia. Zone 5.
