As with snow crocuses, many excellent Crocus vernus hybrids and selections from the early and middle twentieth century are virtually unavailable these days. Introduced in the 1950s but rarely offered today, ‘Little Dorrit’ is little in cultivar name only, bearing large pale lavender-blue flowers that deepen to dark purple at their throats. Well worth rediscovering! Zone 5.
