Gladiolus communis

We have corms of the “true” species, rather than the imposters often found in the mass trade. The amethyst-purple flowers are somewhat hooded above and often have a bit of variegation in their lower floral segments. They occur on 3-foot scapes in late spring, weeks later than those of the mass market pretenders. Modified continental/Mediterranean; S Europe to Caucasus. Zone 5.
