A scilla with liliaceous aspirations, this striking and singular squill sends up several lush, allium-like leaves from an uncharacteristically large, fleshy-scaled, lily-like bulb. In contrast, the conical, 10-inch-tall racemes of powder-blue flowers have a Hyacinthoides look. Bloom is late for a squill – mid- to late-April here. Woodsy conditions preferred. Mediterranean/Montane; Pyrenees. Zone 6.
